           ENGLISH LITERATURE CLUB

Literature...
What is literature?
Literature is a term used to describe written or spoken material. Broadly speaking , "literature" is used to describe anything from creative writing to more technical or scientific works, but the term is more commonly used to refer to works of the creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama, fiction and non-fiction.
It represents a language or a people; culture and tradition. But, literature is more important than just a historical or cultural artifact. Literature introduces us to Worlds of Experiences. We learn about books and literature, we enjoy the comedies and the tragedies of poems, stories and plays ; and we may even grow and evolve through our literary journey with books.

Ultimately, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author says and how he/she says it. We may interpret the author's message.

Literature is important to us because it speaks to us, it is Universal and it affects us. Even When It Is Ugly, It Is Beautiful.

"The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as youn wish"
                                                            -Robert Louis Stevenson.

Literature  for... Business

"But how is this ever going to help in my club through business point of view?"

Setting aside the theoritical arguments for a moment, let's talk about whether or not literature has practical value for someone in, say, Business, Science,Math. Political Science,Psychology,History.

Let's start with business.
First, what qualities or skill might a business major gain from literature?
  • On a large scale , making a business deals and negotiating requires the ability to read people, to analyse their past actions and find a way to approach them on their level.
  • You'll study their actions and venture a guess at their motivations.
  • Conducting business also requires the ability to calculate the risk and advantages of an action and to make high-pressure decisions.
To do these things , you'll have to see through the lens of multiple outcomes.Through literature you gain perspective by looking at a work using different critical methods.

In other words, you'll learn to look at business through multiple lenses.
